Finding space for rapidly growing data volumes is a critical concern for enterprises today—but it’s not the only data concern. Companies in a recent study ranked “Data Protection”,” “Hardware Costs”, and “Rapid Data Growth” among their top storage challenges.1 And in another survey, 78 percent said that they are using public cloud services to some degree.2

Not surprisingly, on-premises storage infrastructure deployments continue to face pressure from the rising adoption of public cloud services. However, could storage innovations—such as flash, software-defined storage, and object storage—as well as converged infrastructures that can deliver substantial benefits, entice more IT decision-makers to keep workloads on-premises?

Join us for a lively debate, as our panel of experts discusses how the organization stores, manages and protects data, in other words, can be as important as how much capacity the organization provides for data.

Andrew Buss
Research Director - European Enterprise Infrastructure @ IDC

Andrew Buss is research director for IDC’s European Enterprise Infrastructure program. He is responsible for driving  IDC’s research covering present and future trends impacting servers, storage and networking, and IT service delivery based in London. Central to this is understanding how on-premises IT is evolving under the emergence of Open Source, Software-Defined Enterprise, multi-Cloud adoption and Cloud-native development practices, and how this will impact everything from the low-level silicon underpinnings and system design, through to the design and integration of the different infrastructure components, up to the platform management and service delivery.

His research area focuses on understanding the convergence of different technologies and capabilities and how they need to integrate and work together to deliver efficient, effective and agile IT services from the data centre or cloud right through to the end-user.
